…And it’s even more fun. On May 30, the re-imagined Disney Store makes it debut at the Park Meadows mall in Lone Tree (on the lower level near Dillards). It still has the magical Disney look and all the products that we love, but now it’s even more interactive with events, storytimes and, yes, a couple hidden Mickeys. Sorry, no hints on the whereabouts of the Mickeys, even with 4 kids and 8 adults
begging asking, the cast members (the name given to all Disney employees) kept silent.
This is the first new Disney store in Colorado and it reflects the changes intended to bring an even more magical experience for the kids. Cast members actually got down on their knees to view the store through a child’s eyes.
Here’s a sneak peek at what you’ll experience in the new store:
Daily Opening Ceremony
Each day at the store begins with a special opening ceremony. Guests (the name Disney gives all visitors to Disney locations) are welcome to line up before the store opens. Then one guest each day will be selected to turn the key to the store and “unlock imagination.” As the key turns, the silent store slowly comes to life with lights and special features.
Special Events and Activities
Just outside of the store, a kiosk (shown above) will list the upcoming activities for the week. Events such as Belle’s storytime, Mike’s Trivia Challenge, How to Draw Mickey Mouse and more, give guests to the store more than a shopping experience. There will also be themed events surrounding any new movie releases. With Disney•Pixar’s new film Brave set to hit theaters on June 22, special events are planned each Saturday surrounding the release. The store is already fully loaded with Brave and Merida (the red-headed heroine of the story) goodies.
While the previous Disney store did have a screen, the movie clips were on a loop. The new theaters give guests the opportunity to select which clips they would like to watch using a touch screen menu. The upper screen is for grown-ups and the lower screen is kid-height so even very little ones can reach up and make selections.
The Magic Mirror
As you travel along the Pixie dust trail through the store, you’ll reach a princess castle with a magic mirror. As guests peruse the princess goodies, the princesses will appear in the mirror. Be sure to try this on each visit as the princess appearances will be different each time. I happened to catch a glimpse of Rapunzel as I waved her wand near the mirror.
Everyday Magic and Special Celebrations
In true Disney fashion, the store strives to make not just special days, but every day, a celebration. Each day there will be spontaneous events like the Imagination Parade where kids can wear a character mask and march along behind the banner carrier, and the Imagination Explosion where your favorite Disney villains “take over” the store (Cast Members will give parents notice when this is about to happen since it involves a little thunder and some soft flashing lights). Not to worry, the heroes will bring a happy ending.
Even just to celebrate nature, the trees in the store (see above) will reflect the season with special videos and lighting. Watch the seasonal trees for changes throughout the year.
If guests are celebrating a special event like a birthday, be sure to tell a cast member and they can help make the day more magical.
Grand Opening Events – June 9
The new Park Meadows Disney Store opens on May 30, but the official grand opening celebration is June 9 with an opening ceremony at 10am. The first 500 guests on June 9th receive a free gift and everyone has a chance to meet Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse in The Vistas Court from 12-4pm. Ten percent of total sales from the grand opening day will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
